The film Chico & Rita was nominated today for the 2012 Oscars in the Best Animated Feature Film category. Chico & Rita is an animated film directed by Fernando Trueba, Javier Mariscal and Tono Errando, with music by Bebo Valdés along with other great artists in an exceptional soundtrack that runs through the entire movie. In 2011, Chico & Rita won the Premio Goya Best Animated Movie award.

Chico & Rita is an animated musical that tells the story of two lovers, a pianist and a singer, and is a sentimental, personal and musical journey that takes us to the Tropicana in Havana, the Salle Pleyel in Paris, Radio City Music Hall in New York, the Village Vanguard, and the Palladium … legendary venues immersed in music recorded exclusively for the film. Chico & Rita was recorded with Bebo Valdés, sitting at the piano, and leading some of the different groups of musicians who played on the album, with songs and instrumentals performed by Bebo Valdés (as Chico), Idania Valdes (Rita) Freddy Cole (Nat King Cole), Jimmy Heath (Ben Webster), Michael Phillip Mossman (Dizzy Gillespie), Amadito Valdes (Tito Puente), German Velasco (Charlie Parker), Yaroldi Abreu (Chano Pozo), Pedrito Martinez (Miguelito Valdés) … And Estrella Morente sings Lily, the movie’s theme tune.
