Amaia Montero Wins Best Album!


The Premio 40 Principales ’09 award in the Best Album category obtained by Amaia Montero is the golden summit of a year filled with hits. This singer and songwriter from Guipúzcoa (Spain) received this prize in a ceremony that took place at Palacio de los Deportes in Madrid on December 11, where she performed live. One year after the release of her debut solo album, this accolade represents the definitive confirmation of the amazing impact her new artistic stage is having both in Spain and also in Latin America.

The Premio 40 Principales ’09 award in the Best Album category joins a long list of rewards received by Amaia Montero. She obtained a triple platinum record in Spain, and where she continues for 55 weeks, on the Spanish best selling sales chart, where she debuted at number 1. Her song Quiero ser, the album’s first single, also reached number 1 on the radio and TV airplay charts, and obtained a platinum record in the digital downloads and original ringtones chart as well. Additionally, the album obtained a gold record in Argentina and Venezuela. Amaia Montero was chosen Artist of the Year by popular vote on the Orgullosamente Latinos awards. She was nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Female Pop Vocal Album category.

The success obtained by Amaia Montero’s album was supported by the success reached by what became one of the most powerful concert tours by any Spanish artist in 2009. Aside from offering a large number of concerts all around Spain in a tour that ended on October 24, Amaia Montero presented her songs in Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Mexico and in the United States. Additionally, she just finished the recording of her album performed in Italian, to be released in Italy by early 2010.

On November 18, 2008, Amaia Montero released her first debut solo album. It was one year ago when this artist born in Irún (Guipúzcoa, Spain) left behind a decade with a successful career as La Oreja de Van Gogh’s main vocalist to start another career as a solo artist. ”I started from scratch, I became more mature all of a sudden”, she said. “I tried to create an honest record, led by an artistic impulse or expressing whoI really am. I needed to follow my own path and I took the risk in doing it”.

Produced by Claudio Guidetti, the album was recorded in Irún, Madrid, Genoa, Milan and Los Angeles. It includes 11 songs composed by Amaia Montero, who was totally involved in the whole creation of the album, from the development of the early demos to the supervising of the whole recording and mixing process. Today, one year after the release of her debut solo album, Amaia Montero just obtained the Premio 40 Principales ’09 award in the Best Album category, a prize that adds to the success obtained by an unbeatable album.
